Project Overview

CPE Projects was engaged to upgrade welfare facilities at Fort Pitt Grammar School, Chatham, converting former classroom spaces into modern, high-capacity toilet and washroom areas. The scheme delivered 50 new toilets and wash areas across four locations, each designed with full-privacy cubicles and durable finishes suitable for a high-traffic school environment.

Scope of Works

  • Conversion of existing classrooms into new welfare facilities
  • 50 new toilets and wash areas across four zones
  • Full-privacy cubicles and high-durability finishes
  • New mechanical and electrical installations
  • Phased programme across summer break and live school term

Challenges & Approach

A tight programme required Phase 1 to be completed during the summer holiday, with Phase 2 delivered safely within a live school environment. Careful planning, segregation, and clear communication ensured minimal disruption to teaching while maintaining safeguarding standards.

Outcome

The new welfare areas have significantly improved the school’s hygiene, privacy, and capacity. Feedback from both staff and pupils has been extremely positive, with the modernised spaces now supporting daily operations more efficiently.
